About the author

Canberra-based Nerida Gill has a background in volunteer work and designing software to specifically suit the needs of end users.

In the not too hazy past, she found herself in the role of volunteer treasurer with her local preschool. With a preschooler and toddler on her hips and very little accounting experience, she was handed nothing but a dog-eared cashbook. After her life stopped flashing before her eyes, Nerida vowed to become a financial wiz and use her skills to rescue other volunteer treasurers from shoe boxes full or receipts and the terror of monthly bank reconciliations.

The result is Admin Bandit, an accounting software package that makes being a volunteer treasurer a breeze, even for those with no experience.

Community groups around Australia love Nerida’s software, but they’re not the only ones — the product has won four prestigious awards in under three years, including one of the biggest IT awards in the country.

A flair for developing favorable business relationships and many years of volunteering has been central to Nerida’s entrepreneurial success. Notably, a long-standing partnership with Canberra Preschool Society has provided a valuable testing ground for her software and has saved ACT preschools more than $500,000.

As for anyone curious about how her software got its name … no, Nerida is not into archery. But, in the spirit of Robin Hood, she aims to enrich community life by stealing back time for poor volunteer treasurers.

In rare quiet moments, Nerida walks or rides around Lake Burley Griffin with friends, supports her family in mountain biking events and rugby, strawberry champagne.
